February 23 Opportunity, Optimism, Oceans
February has offered waves of opportunities for me. Some I have caught, others have made their way to the beach untouched. I struggle to stay optimistic, but fortunately I am surrounded by an ocean of people who lift me up even after I’m trapped by the pounding surf.
Find your wave, and ride it boldly to the shore.
Today, I am thankful for things that keep my head above water:
- All that is afforded me as opportunity with the hope that I stay alert and engaged to live it fully.
- For the optimism and encouragement of those that love me and who often have more faith in me than I do in myself.
- For the calm of the ocean that comes even after the rage of a storm, with gentle hands and reassuring whispers.
For what are you thankful?
February 16 Daffodils, Detours, a Day Off
The February daffodils have arrived with a flourish and soon the rest of nature’s spring secrets, now safely tucked beneath the frozen crust, will find their place.
They appear quite boldly, lifting their blond heads out of the barren soil and standing tall in the grove of pine, pecan and dogwoods. These gentle soldiers remind us that even in the cold traps of despair, one can find peace – and hope.
Take a moment, and find your daffodil.
Today, I am thankful for things that keep me hopeful and happy.
- The strength and beauty of the daffodils in my otherwise dreary front yard.
- For the detour I had to take home, frustrating at first, then filled with joyous surprises.
- And for a day off which I intend to waste wholly and selfishly on myself.
For what are you thankful?
February 9 Art, Affection, Ardor
Nearly every morning, I stop at a cafe on the way to work and pick up my first bit of “art” for the day.
Despite the routine, I am captivated by the artful precision of the barista and anxious to see the end result pushed across the counter to me. What will it be today? a heart? a flower? a fleur de leis?
Start your day with a small sip of art, you will be pleasantly surprised at the impact it makes.
Today, I am thankful for things that keep me smiling.
- The art of the barista that meets my mornings and transforms my days into adventure.
- For quiet affection, unspoken yet powerfully present.
- Unwavering ardor. Days, weeks, months … a year.
For what are you thankful?
February 2 Football, Finches and Fine Wine
Pittsburgh 27 Arizona 23
Super Bowl XLIII. A traditional American gathering outpaced only by Thanksgiving when it comes to food consumption. I have to say, I love the game but I enjoy watching it from the comfort of my home more than at the stadium. Maybe I’m not a die hard, but just maybe I’m clever that way.
Today, I am thankful for things that keep me smiling.
- The great American tradition of professional football, a resounding reminder that the new year is underway.
- For the purple finches that show up nearly every day and say hello.
- For a glass of fine wine – one for me and one for you. Slainte.
For what are you thankful?
