July 27 Sparks

If you’ve ever been backpacking or camping, you know the anticipation of getting a fire started. Whether it be to shake off a morning chill or light up the night, the first dancing flames are a welcome guest.
If you’ve ever been the one leaning over small nest of kindling striking a flint hopefully, you know that the true magic is the spark. That tiny bit of energy that leaps from one place to another makes all the difference – the spark.
Today I’m thankful for ….
- The tiny bits of spark that find the tender bits and light them afire.
- A sideways grin that says “it’s okay”
- Safe travel and happy returns.
For what are you thankful?
Three Thanks A Week 
In spite of thunderstorms and the joyous impact they have on travel, this Monday finds me in Stockholm, working away. I am thankful for:
1) The wonders of modern travel which can whisk me across the globe in relative comfort and safery
2) Sharing the annoyance and easing it through my friends. All of you… thanks. its nice to vent, and I could feel your support.
3) The parts of the world where you see people from across the globe trying to solve problems, not create new ones. There is a special delight in cooperative endeavors of technology.

As I sit, hours away from my home in the grey seats of the airport, today I am thankful for:
1) The wonder of flight, planes and traveling across the world from the eyes of a tiny, blond little girl.
2) Friends who are willing to talk to me when I am a bit in my cups and answer my curious questions.
3) Collaboration and the potential for adventure in every way.

I remember that a guy down the hall from me in college had this odd metal device on a shelf. It didn’t seem to have any purpose, but it looked like the hilt of a sword. I monkeyed around with it a bit, and the owner of the device wasn’t terribly concerned or worried at my curiousity.
When I asked him what it was, he said “It’s a spring-loaded baton.” and proceeded to demonstrate.
He held it in his hand, squeezed one of the flanges, and POW! the end came out and blasted clean through a Kleenex box.
If I has triggered the thing, it probably would have killed me or caused a heinous amount of damage to whatever it was pointed at.
I’m thankful that:
1) I’m not as clever at figuring things out as I think I am.
2) Asps require a lot of force before triggering.
3) I had extra boxes of Kleenex. (It was my Freshman year and I was still getting used to the change of crap in the air)

Today, I’m thankful:
The fluid leaking out of the plane really was just water. While it was frustrating to be delayed, it’s way less frustrating than finding out it was, say, hydraulic fluid 😛
That I have some very hard working co-workers who do as much as I do, if not more, and
The I have the patience to NOT abuse the coworkers who maybe *aren’t* so hardworking 🙂

Today I am Thankful for:
1) Working Mid Shift so that I can enjoy all that the night has to offer
2) Thunder and lightning that make the night a little scary and very interesting
3) The Sun, Moon and stars and the places that they create in my imagination
