November 2 Spooks

It was cold and drizzly on Halloween night, but fortunately for us that did not dampen the spirit – so to speak – of the neighborhood ghouls.   We had 50 or so visitors brave the path along cemetery to retrieve a treat reward and it was great fun.

Today I am thankful for simple rituals that remind us of our humanity:

  1. parents that dress up with their kids
  2. gentle reminders to say “please” and “thank you”
  3. the bare honesty of the ghoul who uttered “by the way, I think you have too many decorations up in your yard”.

For what are you thankful?

  1. My weekend was long and delightful so today I am thankful for:

    1) Friends who will dress up, help me dress up, laugh and then celebrate Halloween with me.
    2) The three day weekend which really should become a staple.
    3) Falling back and that sweet extra hour of sleep that comes with it.

  2. My weekend involved a 4 letter word starting with W, but I am thankful I still managed to get in some excellent time online with friends. I’m specifically thankful for:

    1) The fact that in today’s ultra-market-driven consumer-oriented world that people who have some amazing talents are willing to share their wonderful gifts of arts, music and song with those of us who love to partake 🙂

    2) clean laundry, and how amazingly easy it is to get it in these modern days; having *used* a hand-driven laundry machine as well as having washed my clothes on washboards in the past, it’s amazing how nice it is to ‘have’ to run to the basement every 45 minutes to move loads from one machine to another.

    3) being able to take a few minutes, stare out the windows, and watch the deer walk along the treeline behind my house.

  3. I’m thankful for the contributors to a great Halloween:
    * all the people who decorate their homes for the holiday, adding fun throughout the neighborhood
    * all the people who dress up in costumes and join the Mall Crawl
    * restaurants with heat lamps to let you sit outside on an otherwise somewhat chilly Oct 31 night!
