June 28 Chances

with 4 comments

I had the chance last week to travel as part of my job. While I’m still in a bit of a jet lagged blur I haven’t lost sight of the wonder and magic. There is no substitute for being outside of your cocoon, for exploring the edges of life whenever you are given the chance.

Today I’m thankful for

  1. walks through hot, noisy and crowded streets.
  2. a half a day without schedules, covered in green.
  3. my colleagues that go the extra mile, reminding me what it means to be the best.

For what are you thankful?

June 14 Reasons

with 3 comments

I have s fascination with mushrooms. I never really stopped to think about it until it occurred to me that I had rushed into the house to grab my camera when I saw the one above in the back yard.  My Grandfather and I would walk for hours in the woods hunting wild mushrooms. Wild mushrooms, a hot pan and some butter … delicious. Most of the time we didn’t find any edible mushrooms, we just walked and talked and he tried to teach me important things about the land and about life.

Today I am thankful that

  1. I had all that time with my Grandfather and I still remember a lot of what he said, especially “Everything happens for a reason”.
  2. the World Cup is here and we get a glimpse into our humanity.
  3. despite a restless night I might be able to sneak in 30 minutes this morning.

For what are you thankful?

June 7 Imagination

You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.  – Mark Twain

What a glorious day it is today. I don’t particularly enjoy the city din, but I do appreciate the occasional skyscraper silhouetted against a blue sky peppered with clouds.

I’ve been thinking a lot about imagination and how it shapes us – well actually just how it shapes me in particular. Some people seem perfectly happy to go about their lives in a void of imagination; I think that must be a dreadful thing.

Today I am thankful for

  1. the freedom to dream silly things and expect that they might come true.
  2. the friendly smile and good humor of the waitress that helped me at lunch.
  3. the safe, loving, happy and imagination filled place I get to call home.

For what are you thankful?
