July 18 Les règles de l’art
On Bastille Day, entry to The Louvre is free of charge. If you get there early – around 0800 – you can stand in line with a few thousand other people, wait patiently until 0900 and then upon entry, charge into the Denon gallery to be one of the first of the day to peer at The Mona Lisa.
That took 10 minutes, and if you stand around longer soon enough you will start to feel the pressure of the following throngs upon your back. Now what? Allow me to suggest Gregor Erhart’s St. Mary Magdalene; she’s a few floors below, but her radiance fills the hall.
Today I am thankful for
- jet lag, or at least the residual feeling of moving slowly through history as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the ride.
- time out to cheer on the USA Women’s Soccer team and applaud Japan’s hard fought World Cup victory.
- art, and artists and les règles de l’art .
For what are you thankful?
Mondays in July. New challenges ahead.

Today, I’m thankful that:
1) My friends and wife convinced me to splurge a bit on something I’ve wanted to buy for several years
2) Even when I work over the weekend, sometimes it’s not more hours than I’d work on a usual day
3) Hiccups aren’t a fatal condition usually – HIC *ow*

Today the sun pushed through my blinds in the bedroom and I am ever thankful for
1) art in the form of words tucked between covers and those who taught me not only how to read, but how to love reading.
2) lazy summer Sunday breakfasts and fresh nectarines sitting on my dining room table.
3) surprise Day Lilies in my back yard which are filling the space with an intoxicating scent.

Today I am thankful for:
Air conditioning in a blistering heat wave;
A slow starting Monday morning that is letting me ease into the week; and
The sounds of children playing playing happily while cicadas chirp in the background.

I came in to work early today, brought my cuppa tea and relaxed for a bit before beginning. Today I’m thankful for
1) The rain even with crashing thunder that raced through drenching my planters so I don’t have to water after neglecting them all weekend. Yes, I want to be lazy today 🙂
2) The generosity of all those people who made this year’s RFL a whopping success with a total standing over 371K US$ at this moment.
3) Sleep, sweet sleep 🙂

sometimes a little magic goes a long way and today i’m mostly thankful for
people who make me see the magic in every day things,
people who use their own magic to create beauty for others,
the magic of nature, it never ceases to amaze me
